The Slimen ünd Grossen Cycling Club Presents
The 2006 Trek
Bicycle Store of KC/LocalCycling.com Racing Team
Slimenundgrossen is a USCF registered club. The club name Slimen ünd Grossen
is a nonsensical phrase coined to playfully suggest the true nature of cyclocross
racing, along with its Belgian origins. That name was used to promote an early
Kansas City Cyclocross Series, and eventually was adopted by the host company
that promoted the 2000 USCF Cyclocross National Championships in Overland Park,
KS. The online registration and information page for that event; www.slimenundgrossen.com,
continued to grow and add features, eventually morphing into www.localcycling.com
in 2005.
The TrekbicyclestoreofKC/localcycing.com
racing team is an outgrowth of the partnership forged between The Trek Bicycle
Store of Kansas City and www.slimenundgrossen.com (now www.localcycling.com).
In addition to being one of Bicycling Magazine's Top 100 retail Stores, The
Trek Bicycle Store of Kansas City (Together with the Trek Bicycle Stores of
St. Louis, and Omaha, and their sister shop, Highgear of Omaha), lives up to
it's committment to "Support a Community in Motion." The members of
Team TrekBicycleStoreOfKC/LocalCycling.com believe wholeheartedly in that goal,
leading group rides, participating in bike rodeos, and serving on community
advisory boards as well as racing.
The 30 athletes on our team
span a wide variety of ages, race skills and accomplishments. Team members race
actively in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska, as well as taking part in USCF
National Championship and UCI World Masters Championship events.
Community Involvement
No matter where you live, or work, or play in the Kansas City area, you're likely
to see a cyclist in the distinctive Red, Yellow and Black colors of the TrekBicycleStoreOfKC/LocalCycling.com
uniform. Members of Team TrekbicyclestoreofKC/localcycing.com are leaders off
the bike as well. Highly respected members of the business community, and community
leaders. The team is active in community organizations as well as cycling advocacy.
The team supports The Major Taylor Foundation of Greater Kansas City which seeks
to educate, mentor and provide support for all youth interested in the varied
aspects of cycling, including commuting, group rides, bicycle repair and racing.
Our members help to provide coaching and equipment while mentoring those members
of the Major Taylor group with an interest in racing. In 2005 Christian Griffin,
a member of the Major Taylor group and new team member became the first African-American
to stand at the top of the podium in the 43 year history of the Tour of Kansas
City.
Team TRekbicyclestoreofKC/localcycing.com also supports Kansas City Wheelchair
Road & Track. KC Wheelchair members race as part of our team. These physically
challenged athletes have competed in the Dodge Tour of Georgia, Rocky Mountain
Omnium, Kechi TT, Peculiar TT and the Baptist-Lutheran Hospital Triathlon. Team
TRekbicyclestoreofKC/localcycing.com is committed to making the sport of cycling
accessible to all regardless of physical ability.
