If your are racing in the Kansas City area, road or off road it would be smart to join the KARB discussion list. Go to http://yahoo.groups.com/group/karb yeah, we know it's sometimes a pain to figure out how to actually get hooked up on these things, but it's worth it. Slimen mini-editorial: "The KCA is a fine first step. It will become much more viable as it includes all metro racing. The imaginary barrier of a state line, and lack of mountain biking needs to be addressed. KCA's parent USAC is the governing body of NORBA events. If mountain promoters aren't using NORBA, KCA needs to fix the problems. KCA is working with the cyclocross promters (the Kansas side anyways), much of 'cross growth is coming from the fat tire folks. The same could be true of road AND the reciprocal for mountain biking."

    Reopening DeSoto

Many cyclists, racers or otherwise, used to utilize 83rd St and Old K10 to travel from KC to Lawrence. Unfortunately the myopic DeSoto city council passed an ordinance banning cycling on a short section, effectively closing the route. Here's some hope from concerned cyclist Darius Riley, "Hello - I am looking for some help. I am a recreational cyclist here in KC and live out near DeSoto. I have followed the 83rd Street "Banned Section" since the DeSoto city council passed the ordinance against riding on 83rd. I am trying to gather support for impacting changes with the DeSoto city council and need to find local riders who are residents of DeSoto. I was hoping you might help spread the word and have anyone interested contact me at darius@lifeofriley.cc. There may be a near term possibility to make changes to that section of road and the ordinance. Thank you.".
