La Ruta de los Syllamores - Syllamo's Revenge
Written by Kyle

Syllamo's Revenge 2008 - Deep in the mountains of Arkansas, several of the Slimen boys embarked on a journey that would prove to be a test of physical and mental fortitude.   If there was a single day event like the real La Ruta, this would be it.   Mud, Rocks, multiple river crossings, and endless climbs minus the sweltering heat, snakes, and mosquitos (give it a couple months).  Tornados and storm storms moved through the region on Friday morning leaving the course wet, muddy, and full of pitfalls.   Russ, Rusty, Vinny, and I arrived on Friday afternoon after a 6 hour drive.  Vinny and I were going to do a little test ride and headed out on the green loop to make sure all the cylinders were firing.  Not even a mile in and Stans is spewing everywhere out of my rear tire.  I stop to find a rock embedded in the tread yet the Stans won't seal it up.  I end up having to put a tube in the tire and ride it out.  There are no bike shops within a 2 hour radius so there is no way I'm finding a replacement tire.  Tubes it is....

The Rain Gods are Cruel
Written by Kyle
Sunday, 27 April 2008

The rain MUST stop!  How many more races are going to be cancelled due to rain?  I am livid this morning and ready to give up on racing.  Today I even had an alternative race (road race), but with my schedule, I'm gonna have to miss that too.  We just can't get a break on the racing front.  Every one of the scheduled Heartland MTB races have been cancelled, with only one of the reschedules going off as planned.  The promoters cannot be blamed, they are merely pawns in Mother Nature's wicked plan for us this Spring.  Buy a new bike and look what you get... torrential downpours at least a couple times per week, unridable trails, and cancelled races.  What to do?  I'm thinking head South, well Southwest.  Get out of this wretched swamp and head for the desert.  Colorado, Utah, Arizona?  Any of them are better than this.

Spoke Pony Report
Written by Kyle
Monday, 21 April 2008

The Spoke Pony Showdown race was a couple weeks back, lagger.  The weather was great with low temps and overcast skies to keep the overheating to a minimum.  Since then not much racing has happened  due to all the rain.  The Slimen crew had several racers out there... Bob, Russ, Dave Pitt and son Jakey, myself, and of course Mr Studnicki.  We all have our own themes of the race - mechanicals, blowouts, bonking, and winning.  Can you guess who's was who's?  The LeMans start was led out by fifteen or so Team 360 members.
